Sorry for a complete lack of posts, things have been going on behind the scenes here.  The re-design is going slowly but is going nonetheless.

Had a bit of spare time so I did a Terminal replacement icon; all done by me of course, thought I’d release it here for anyone that wants it….

On other matters, iPlayer has recently seen a new release, and we’re hard at work on 3.3.  The next major revision is going to take some time alas, but it’ll be worth the wait.  Honest.

Was browsing through a few old photos I took this summer and never got around to looking at;  I’m usually a bit shaddy with the camera so I was pleasantly surprised with some of the results.  This is my new desktop background:

Mushrooms!!!

Mushrooms!!!

For those of you that are a bit behind in your fungal botany, they’re fly agaric mushrooms, which as you can see on that wiki link are the quintessential toadstool.

Regardless, I’m rather pleased with how that photo turned out, and on my macbooks 1280×800 resolution, set to “Fill Screen”, it’s a very nice background….

If you want it, take it, use it, credit it back here, ta…

As some of you may know I’m re-launching this site under a new name fairly soon (probably about April time), but until then, I’ve given things a quick spruce up.  Nothing major, or very impressive, just something fairly minimalist…

I know it’s probably not amazing looking but I really don’t have the time to make it great when it’ll all be gone fairly soon anyway….

Someone in IRC asked for this, so after they found this thread, I made them one.

Folder probably belongs to Apple, the PSD file I used to make it comes from the aforelinked thread, and the Xcode icon is also Apple’s.  Modification is mine…

Feel free to take it, use it etc. and link back here if you like it.  It was a 5 minute simple adjust and recolourise…..

I designed this icon a while back and the developer was happy with it but has since decided to go with a different design.  Ho hum, it happens to us all I guess.

Not too concerned about it really;  I did get paid for it anyway, although I’m still a little saddened the client has chosen not to use it, the design was a joint effort and was agreed upon.

Done using Illustrator, based heavily on the OS X Dock.app icon (usually seen in System Preferences).

I’ll be putting up some more icon’s I’ve deigned in the near future; I’m still waiting on some of the apps to be released before I can publicise my efforts.

Sadly for some reason I’ve lost most of my news/blog here.  A lot of people told me they were getting a “Sorry, nothing to see here” message instead of my inane dribblings.

Dunno why, but alas, I’ve cleared it all out and starting again in the hopes that it’ll show up for someone other than me…

On the icon front, I’ve just completed another 3 icons that you’ll be able to see in my portfolio as soon as the apps they were made for are lunched (and in a couple of cases this may a while since they’re iPhone apps and we all know how speedy Apple are at approving apps in the AppStore!).

Also in the process of doing some company logos for people;  I quite like logo design as it’s a little bit different to icon work; sure it’s harder and takes a lot longer, but it’s more, i dunno, artistically challenging, I guess.  You really have to cram in the symbolism and make the logo talk to the viewer more.  I mean, for instance, if your application designs model rockets, an icon that shows a rocket, possibly partly in blueprints, that’s pretty easy.  Sure it might take a while to draw, and make it visually stunning, but concept wise, it’s1 minutes thought.

Designing a logo for (random company, sorry if you really exist, I have no affiliation etc.), say, Greenwall Aerospace, a company that makes model rocket software, that’s altogether trickier.  Once you’ve looked at and dismissed green, wall and rockets, you have to come up with something a bit more idealised than that.  And it can be pretty hard.  Sometimes though, hard is fun.

There endeth today’s dribblings…..
